Spring is here. Pollen is floating around because flowers are blooming as the days become longer. This is also known as the allergy season, which is difficult for many, especially those experiencing asthma. Some are suffering so badly that they need antihistamines just to survive this season. Here are pollen-proofing tips that can help you enjoy the spring season:

Take a shower every time you come home.

  • This pandemic forced us to be more health-conscious and focus on cleanliness. It’s not a bad idea to continue the same steps we used to take, like putting used clothes straight into the laundry and taking a shower immediately. These steps will help keep your home pollen-free. Be reminded that tiny particles can stick to your skin, hair, clothes, and shoes whenever you go outside.

Keep shoes outside

  • Like pollen sticks to your clothes, your shoes will also collect tiny particles. You do not want to bring these particles inside your home, so make it a habit to leave your shoes outside the house. You can also have a doormat and make a rule for everyone to remove their shoes before entering the house, especially during the pollen season.

Use an air purifier

  • Some pollen will still be able to enter your home and make your allergies worse. Invest in a good air purifier. You might find air purifiers expensive, but they can definitely be worth it. Air purifiers trap floating dust and pollen. This also helps reduce cigarette smells, other allergens, and pet dander.

Maintain your windows

  • To prevent pollen from being blown inside your home by a spring storm, you must ensure that your windows are properly sealed. Pollen will find its way inside your house if your windows and doors are not insulated or installed correctly. Inspect your windows regularly, especially before the spring season, to ensure that your household is safe from pollen invasion.

Pet wipes

  • Animal fur attracts pollen, so you have to bathe your pets frequently. After going out of the house with your pet for a few hours, many particles are hidden in their fur by the time you get home. Therefore, invest in wet wipes for pets to keep them clean and train them so they get used to being cleaned before going inside the house.

Keep your car parked in the garage.

  • Another thing that attracts pollen is your vehicle. Pollen can be sucked in through your air conditioner and air vents. Keep your car clean and parked inside the garage, not in the open, especially during spring. Make sure that your garage is fixed and decluttered before spring comes to avoid pollen from covering the surface of your car and eventually working its way inside.

HVAC filters need to be changed

  • You might already be consistent in changing your HVAC filters from time to time. However, you might need to double the effort during the pollen season to ensure that allergens are cleaned and the air you’ll breathe will not cause allergies. Filters will not be able to function correctly if they are full of dust and dirt. This might cause more issues with the hardware but also generate health hazards.

Keep Anti-histamines Ready

  • Chemicals in the body like histamines are triggered when antibodies find allergens in your body. It causes inflammation that makes your nose runny and irritated. Therefore, during the spring season, you should keep your anti-histamines available if you need them since pollen particles will be everywhere and can be inhaled at any time.

These steps will surely help you enjoy the time of blooming flowers and longer days. Pollen will inevitably be present, but you can still keep it outside your home to avoid the health hazards it may cause.
